To be looked up to does not mean to look down on…

When someone looks up to you

…is one of those little things that remind me life is good.

Cuando alguien te ve como un ejemplo

a seguir

…es una de esas pequeñas cosas que me hacen recordar lo buena que es la vida.

When someone, younger or older, sees you as a person who they admire and respect, who makes good decision, who is an example of leading a desirable life it can be a great feeling…and also scary as hell.

It’s a great feeling knowing that all your hard work and your efforts to be a decent person are noticed by someone, and it makes them look up to you. You feel rewarded.

And at the same time, it’s scary to think that someone is looking to you to set an example of good behavior, good decisions, good morals, etc… That means, if you screw up, not only do you mess up your own life but you disappoint somebody else in the process.

But lets be optimistic here: even though it is a great responsibility to be looked up to, I truly believe the rewards outweigh the risks. When you get the opportunity to influence somebody else with your life choices, you become more cautious of making bad choices and more aware of your own good decisions.

So if you ever get the chance to mentor someone, I say: go for it!
